Overview
The ECMO program at IU Health Methodist Hospital and Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health would like to invite you to participate in our upcoming Specialists Education in Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (SEECMO) Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana, May 18 - 20, 2018. This conference is designed with a focus on the bedside technical specialist and will attract specialists from the neonatal, pediatric and adult realm. These specialists may include advanced practice nurses, registered nurses, respiratory  therapists and perfusionists. Additional attendees will include neonatal, pediatric, cardiac and adult critical care physicians, as well as pediatric and adult surgeons.

Goals:

This conference will discuss current trends and management in the care of patients experiencing cardiac and respiratory failure requiring ECMO support. Themes of this conference include:
  • Caring for the ECMO Specialist
  • Multi-disciplinary rounding
  • Ambulatory and Awake ECMO
  • Ethics
  • Quality and Safety within ECMO Programs
  • Anticoagulation
  • ECMO Program Growth
  • ECMO and CRRT
Abstract Submissions

Abstracts are being accepted for all ECMO-related topics for poster presentations at the 28th Annual SEECMO conference. Suggested topics of interest include: case reports, quality improvement initiatives, ECMO-related research, ECMO transport, ambulatory ECMO, ethics, and anticoagulation.Abstracts should be typed on one 8 ½ x 11 page.  Abstracts are due Monday, April 30, 2018.  Notification of acceptance will be communicated by Wednesday, May 9, 2018.  Abstracts should be emailed to Gail Hocutt at [email protected].
Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Review anticoagulation basics and discuss alternative methods for anticoagulation
  2. Identify ethical challenges in ECMO and discuss strategies for ECMO team members for coping through these challenges
  3. Discuss quality and safety processes within ECMO programs
  4. Outline decision-making processes related to ECMO initiation
  5. Describe patient management strategies during ECMO therapy

Accreditation

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of Indiana University School of Medicine, Indiana University Health Methodist and Indiana University Health Riley. The Indiana University School of Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Indiana University School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 15.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Continuing Nursing Education

Indiana University Health is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Ohio Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. (OBN-001-91) (OH-412, 6/1/2019)

Nurses will earn up to 15.5 contact hours for time in attendance and submission of the evaluation.
