Overview
This symposium will provide clinical supervisors of genetic counseling graduate students with strategies for improving their supervisory relationships and supervision techniques with trainees. Topics will include a wide variety of clinical supervision aspects from the orientation process through provision of clinical performance feedback, while also addressing supervisor self-awareness of topics including self-care and implicit biases that could impact their clinical supervision.

Objectives
  1. Recognize principles of effective learner feedback.
  2. Integrate several clinical teaching strategies into daily learner feedback.
  3. Identify common pitfalls some supervisors make in providing learner feedback.
  4. Develop strategies for effectively orienting new trainees to clinical expectations.
  5. Identify how bias and the processes of the unconscious mind can impact critical healthcare decisions and results.
  6. Apply new strategies for practicing more conscious awareness individually and organizationally.
  7. Identify mindfulness strategies to reduce supervisor stress and to impart to clinical trainees experiencing stress.

Registration

The registration for this activity is free, however pre-registration is required.

The symposium will be held at Walther Hall Auditorium C203, 2nd floor at 980 W Walnut St., Indianapolis, IN 46202.
