Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
  1. Highlight the history of opioid use and the current public health crisis
  2. Discuss the changing culture of opioid prescribing and the surgeon's role in the opioid epidemic
  3. Review multimodal pain strategies and evidence based practices
  4. Describe the effect of trauma on platelet function
  5. Describe the application of Thromboelastography in measuring coagulopathy
  6. Review literature on management of platelet dysfunction
  7. Identify the possible causes of the difficulty with correcting platelet dysfunction
