This symposium will provide valuable information to providers who care for patients with obesity. Health professionals who will be interested in the content of this program are Primary Care Physicians, Specialty Care Physicians, Medical Weight Loss Physicians, Bariatric Surgeons. Pharmacists, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Clinical Psychologists, Registered Dietitians, Exercise Specialists, Physical Therapists, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Registered Nurses.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Recite the criteria, treatment options, and outcomes of weight loss services available to patients with obesity in the state of IN and central IN region;
  2. Recognize effective ways to discuss with patients the impact of obesity on outcomes and need for its effective treatment; and
  3. Identify mechanisms of obesity and the current state of obesity care in the state of Indiana and central Indiana .

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by Indiana University School of Medicine and IU Health Physicians. Indiana University School of Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team

Nurses
Indiana University School of Medicine designates this activity for a maximum of 7.75 ANCC contact hours. Nurses should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

The 2019 IU School of Medicine Obesity Symposium will be held on Friday, October 26th at the Ruth Lilly Conference Center (2055 N. Senate Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46202) from 7:30am until 4:45pm.
