Overview

Used as a focused diagnostic tool, Point of Care Ultrasound is increasingly used throughout clinical medicine. The purpose of this online enduring activity is to provide the participant with fundamental knowledge in machine operation, ultrasound physics, and how to perform a focused exam for fluid assessment and kidneys & bladder.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Apply the fundamentals of ultrasound physics and machine controls when performing point of care ultrasound examinations.
  2. Implement proper ultrasound scan techniques when using point of care ultrasound for procedural guidance and vascular access
  3. Discuss maneuvers for better visualization of the needle during procedure guidance
  4. Identify potential barriers to ultrasound procedure guidance
  5. Identify characteristic appearances of a vein on the ultrasound image
  6. Identify structures to avoid during venous access procedures
