Overview

Used as a focused diagnostic tool, Point of Care Ultrasound is increasingly used throughout clinical medicine. The purpose of this online enduring activity is to provide the participant with fundamental knowledge in machine operation, ultrasound physics, and how to perform a focused exam for cardiac and lung assessment.

Launch Date: 3/10/2023

Expiration Date:3/09/2026

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Apply the fundamentals of ultrasound physics and machine controls when performing point of care ultrasound examinations.
  2. Implement proper ultrasound scan techniques when performing cardiac and lung point of care ultrasound examinations.
  3. Identify normal anatomy on cardiac and lung point of care ultrasound examinations
  4. Critique cardiac ultrasound image characteristics in the presence of undifferntiated schock, shortness of breath, chest pain, concern for pericardial effusion and cardiac activity in cardiac arrest.
  5. Critique lung ultrasound image characteristics in the presence of shortness of breath, chest pain, fever, and hypotension.
