Overview

Used as a focused diagnostic tool, Point of Care Ultrasound is increasingly used throughout clinical medicine. The purpose of this online enduring activity is to provide the participant with fundamental knowledge in the performance of a focused ultrasound examination of the liver, gallbladder, and abdominal aorta.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Implement proper ultrasound scan techniques when performing liver, gallbladder and abdominal aorta point of care ultrasound examinations.
  2. Identify normal liver, gallbladder and abdominal aorta anatomy in an ultrasound image.
  3. Critique ultrasound image characteristics to assess for gallstones, biliary sludge, and acute cholecystitis
  4. Critique ultrasound image characteristics to determine findings of hepatic steatosis and hepatic cirrhosis.
  5. Critique ultrasound image characteristics to determine findings of abdominal aortic aneurysm and abdominal aortic dissection.
