IMPACT SUD Conference 2026

Join us for IMPACT SUD 2026, InStep’s annual in-person conference focused on strengthening coordinated, community-based responses to SUD. InStep is a coalition of more than 200 multisector organizations across Central Indiana working together to improve communication, share best practices, and advance culturally responsive, trauma-informed, evidence-based approaches to care. Through collaboration, education, and public health leadership, we aim to reduce overdose morbidity and mortality while improving outcomes for individuals, families, and communities. This year’s conference will take place on July 14 at the Indianapolis Central Library and will feature a full day of learning, connection, and practical strategies for professionals across sectors. The day will open with a fireside chat featuring Dr. Jerome Adams, former Indiana State Health Commissioner and the 20th U.S. Surgeon General. Attendees will also hear expert presentations on current drug trends, trauma-informed care, care coordination and transitions, comorbid substance use disorder and chronic pain, updated CDC pain management best practices, legislative training, suicide prevention, conflict management, active listening, and more. Opportunities for multisector networking will be provided prior to the beginning of the conference and during an extended lunch. We are proud to partner with the Indiana University School of Medicine to offer continuing education (CE) for attendees, including physicians, nurses (including advanced practice), pharmacists, social workers, and others (professionals in peer support and public health). 1. Define best practice care coordination strategies (e.g., telehealth, nurse care manager model, Medicaid health homes model).
2. Describe best practices in care transition for individuals experiencing, or in short-term recovery for, substance use disorder (e.g., detox to integrated primary care, criminal justice to recovery housing).
3. Define person- and family-centered care.
4. Deploy a successful peer support program.
5. Incorporate culturally appropriate and/or trauma-informed care into their practice.
6. Implement the Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR) methods of preventing a suicide.
7. Describe current illicit drug trends in Indiana.
8. Utilize conflict management and active listening skills.
9. Define best practices for treating chronic pain in someone undergoing recovery for substance use disorder.

Indiana University School of Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Nurses
Indiana University School of Medicine designates this activity for a maximum of 5 ANCC contact hours. Nurses should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Social Workers
Indiana University School of Medicine has been approved by the Indiana Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist and Mental Health Counselor Board to provide Category I Continuing Education program. This activity qualifies for 5 Category I CEU as outlined by the Indiana Behavioral Health and Human Services Licensing Board.

American Board of Surgery (ABS)
Successful completion of this CME activity enables the learner to earn 5 credit toward the CME of the American Board of Surgery's Continuous Certification Program. It is the CME activity's provider's responsibility to submit learner completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABS credit. 

Psychology (APA)
 Continuing Education (CE) credits for psychologists are provided through the co-sponsorship of the American Psychological Association (APA) Office of Continuing Education in Psychology (CEP). The APA CEP Office maintains responsibility for the content of programs.  This activity offers 5 continuing education credits for psychologists.
