Overview

The Skinternal Medicine: Dermatology for the Non-Dermatologist conference will be taught by expert dermatologists and dynamic lecturers with the goal of teaching practical dermatology to the non-dermatologist, including dermatology and rheumatology providers, primary care providers, and more. Our 6th annual conference in September 2024 was a HUGE success with over 125 attendees and excellent reviews. Attendees can earn up to 7.0/8.4 hours of CME/CE credits. This course is designed for attendees to gain important insight into the management of patients with skin diseases. Attendees will include dermatology midlevel providers, family physicians, internists, pediatricians, primary care midlevel providers, residents, fellows, nurses, and pharmacists.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. improve recognition of skin cancer
  2. Incorporate into daily practice evidenced-based recommendations on new therapies for common dermatologic diseases.
  3. Identify different clinical presentations of cutaneous psoriasis.
  4. Discern early signs and symptoms of psoriatic arthritis.
  5. Explain the roles of currently available therapeutic agents in the treatment of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.
  6. Assess and manage patients with psoriasis for associated comorbidities.
  7. Integrate treatment approaches for the pediatric patient with common as well as severe skin diseases.
  8. Determine which infantile hemangiomas may require treatment.
  9. Describe current evidenced-based treatment for hemangiomas and required monitoring.
  10. Implement updated strategies for the diagnosis and management of psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, acne, rosacea, atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, actinic keratosis, melanoma, and non-melanoma skin cancers.
  11. Discuss common therapeutic regimens for the treatment of acne and rosacea and their respective mechanisms of action.
  12. Analyze different types of drug-induced cutaneous reactions and their common culprits.
  13. Identify severe, life-threatening drug-induced rashes.
  14. Recognize current sun-protection recommendations and their implementation in preventative care.
  15. Describe how to select effective sunscreens and how to apply them.
  16. Discuss the clinical findings and treatment options of actinic keratoses.
  17. Identify common presentations of non-melanoma skin cancers and their treatment.
  18. Explain the different classes of topical corticosteroids and their appropriate uses.
  19. Determine which topical steroid, which base, and the quantity needed to prescribe in various clinical scenarios.
  20. Identify when combination topical steroid products are indicated and when they are contraindicated.
