Date & Location
Saturday, December 3, 2022, 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM, Neuroscience building/Goodman Hall Auditorium, Indianapolis, IN

Target Audience
Specialties - Hematology and Oncology, Neurology, Neuroradiology , Oncology, Other, Radiology Diagnostic

Overview
The inaugural Indiana University Brain Tumor Translational Research Symposium will bring together clinicians and researchers from across Indiana University’s Departments and campuses to promote discussion on the latest advances in the treatment of brain tumors. This symposium will bring this interdisciplinary group together with investigators from Indiana University, Purdue University, and Notre Dame, to share knowledge and promote learning about the latest advances in brain tumor research. The keynote speaker, Milan Chheda, is well-known in neuro-oncology for publishing research in glioblastoma. Other speakers will talking from Purdue, IU, and Notre Dame. We will have shorter presentations from multiple researchers, so attendees can learn about the breadth and depth of research throughout Indiana and latest clinical advances to apply in their own practice and/or identify areas of collaboration and new research opportunities. The morning and afternoon sessions will be separated by a lunch break and poster viewing session. During this poster session trainees will be able to present their research and receive feedback from faculty. Abstracts will be solicited from trainees (medical students, graduate students, residents, and fellows) for poster presentations, with awards to be given for the top three poster presentations. Lunch breakout sessions will be topic-based and will allow participants to engage in small group meetings on an emerging topic in brain cancer (i.e. immunotherapy). This symposium will be attended by academic brain tumor researchers, physicians, and trainees. We will also advertise to community physicians. Evaluations will be distributed at the end of the event to assess whether our goals and learning objectives were met, and to solicit ideas and suggestions for future improvement.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. based on recent research in advanced imaging of brain tumors, participants will implement new advanced imaging modalities and more apporpirately use advanced imaging for the management of their patients with brain tumors
  2. based on discussion of ongoing and emerging brain tumor research, participants will learn about opportunities for collaboration and for ongoing trials across country and in indiana they will refer patients to
  3. based on review of the current state of our understanding of the genetics of brain tumor patients, participants will appropriately screen and test genetic causes for patients with brain tumors
  4. based on review of the implications of exome sequencing in brain tumors, participants will implement more exome sequencing evaluations into their own practice and utilize those results to manage their patients
  5. based on neurofibromatosis type 2 guidelines, participants will know how to diagnose and manage patients with neurofibromatosis type 2

Registration
Registration is free, pre-registration is required.
