Overview
The LGBTQ Healthcare Conference is a leader in improving lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) healthcare, supporting providers with the goal of recognizing and reducing barriers to medical care. 

This 2-day conference is designed for nurses, physicians, physician assistants, psychologists, speech pathologists, social workers, and other allied health professionals to address the unique health risks in the LGBTQ population and the basic elements of LGBTQ-specific healthcare.

Participants will develop and apply skills to ensure that LGBTQ patients feel comfortable in their healthcare setting and receive competent primary care, including the recommended United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) screening tests.


Objectives
  1. Develop and apply skills to establish rapport and ensure that LGBTQ patients feel comfortable in their healthcare setting
  2. Recognize and reduce barriers to medical care in the LGBTQ community
  3. Offer LBGTQ patients competent primary care, including the recommended USPSTF screening tests and if providers are uncomfortable providing such care, ensuring referral to a provider or clinic who will provide such care
  4. Identify the unique health risks in the LGBTQ population
  5. Recall the basic elements of LGBTQ specific healthcare

Location and Parking: The IU Health Neuroscience Center is located in downtown Indianapolis at 362 W. 15th Street, just south of Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital. Parking is available for a nominal fee in the attached parking garage.



Accreditation
In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by Indiana University School of Medicine, Eskenazi Health and Indiana University Health Riley Hospital for Children. Indiana University School of Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Physicians
Indiana University School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 15.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. 

Indiana University School of Medicine has been approved by the Indiana Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist and Mental Health Counselor Board to provide Category I Continuing Education program.  This activity qualifies for 15.25 Category I CEU as outlined by the Indiana Behavioral Health and Human Services Licensing Board.

Nurses
To earn up to 15.25 nursing continuing education contact hours (or 7.5 hours for Thursday and 7.75 hours for Friday), participants must attest to their session attendance, and complete the activity evaluation, which will be made available electronically following the activity.  An email from [email protected]  with the link and explicit instructions for completing the evaluation will be sent to all nurse attendees following the activity.  Participants must complete the evaluation on a device where they can print and/or save the final screen of the evaluation, which will serve as their contact hour record & certificate of completion.  

The Indiana University School of Nursing Center for Professional Development and Lifelong Learning is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Social Workers
