All-day conference: Let’s Talk Palliative Care

The conference will offer:

  • Keynote Speaker by national expert, Dr. Tracy Balboni, MD, MPH, Associate Professor, Harvard Medical School
  • Networking opportunities with colleagues from across the region
  • Sessions featuring regional experts focused on Pediatric, Oncology and Geriatric Palliative and EOL Care issues
  • Posters displaying novel clinical program, quality improvement projects, or research related to palliative and end-of-life care.

IU Talk, which is powered by VitalTalk (www.vitaltalk.org) provides a supportive venue for considering ways to better manage difficult conversations. This half-day workshop will be experiential, with each participant working in a small group to navigate some challenging cases. At the end of the half-day, each participant will take away new tech­niques to help nurture healthier relationships with patients and families. We look for­ward to bringing our workshop to the RESPECT conference! Up to 24 seats available.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe best practices in palliative and hospice care for improving care of patients with serious illness.
  2. Discuss strategies to incorporate new and innovative techniques for caring for patients with serious illness of all ages;
  3. Identify current challenges and opportunities in the field of palliative care.

Accreditation

The Indiana University School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Indiana University School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 11.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. 

Indiana University School of Medicine has been approved by the Indiana Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist and Mental Health Counselor Board to provide Category I Continuing Education program.  This activity qualifies for 11.0 Category I CEU as outlined by the Indiana Behavioral Health and Human Services Licensing Board.

Indiana University Health is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Ohio Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. (OBN-001-91) (OH-412, 6/1/2019) Nurses will be granted 7.25 contact hours for time in attendance and submission of an evaluation.

Indiana University Health, Indianapolis had been approved by the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency to sponsor Category I Continuing Education for Psychology. This program provides a maximum of 7.25 contact hours. Continuing education units are pending for Healthcare Chaplaincy and will be updated when approved. 

*Note: 4 credits designated to the preconference workshop and 7 credits designated to the conference for Social Work and CME credits.
