Overview
This online, interactive conference will help the healthcare team learn how to contribute to positive change when observing social biases. Conference will discuss the factors that determine how we respond to social biases, then attendees will turn knowledge into action. Participants will observe facilitated interactions and help dissect the motivations and challenges that the actors experience. Group discussion will help define effective communication strategies to build a more inclusive environment.

Objectives
At the end of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe the relationship between inclusion and the culture of health professions.
  2. Recognize how principles of inclusion can help improve the mental health treatment of populations and individuals subjected to minority stresses.
  3. Identify strategies that care providers can use to develop practices of inclusion.

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by Indiana University School of Medicine and Mental Health America Wabash Valley. Indiana University School of Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Nurses
Indiana University School of Medicine designates this activity for a maximum of 4.5 ANCC contact hours. Nurses should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Pharmacists

Indiana University School of Medicine designates this activity for 4.5 ACPE contact hours. Pharmacists should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Credit will be provided to NABP CPE Monitor within 60 days after the activity completion.
