Overview

Objectives:
1. Recognize the burden on individuals, families, providers, and community stakeholders of drug use-related valvular heart disease (VHD).

2. Examine the ethical dilemmas in caring for patients with drug use-related VHD.

3. Define the components of a pathway for patients, providers, and community stakeholders to improve outcomes for individuals with drug use-related VHD.

4. Delineate unmet needs in resources and alignments to implement evidence-based approaches to improve outcomes for Hoosiers with drug use-related VHD.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  2. Examine the ethical dilemmas in caring for patients with drug use-related VHD;
  3. Define the components of a pathway for patients, providers, and community stakeholders to improve outcomes for individuals with drug use-related VHD; and
  4. Delineate unmet needs in resources and alignments to implement evidence-based approaches to improve outcomes for Hoosiers with drug use-related VHD.

Accreditation
 
In support of improving patient care, Indiana University School of Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

 Pharmacists
Indiana University School of Medicine designates this activity for 3.25 ACPE contact hours. Pharmacists should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Credit will be provided to NABP CPE Monitor within 60 days after the activity completion.

Physicians

Social Workers

This activity qualifies for 3.25 Category I CEU as outlined by the Indiana Behavioral Health and Human Services Licensing Board.
