Overview

Medication Safety Bootcamp 101 is a terrific medication safety primer that covers topics such as Terminology, Reporting/Trigger Tools, Prevention and Mitigation Strategies, Safety Behaviors, and Just Cultures/ Second Victim. Ideal for learners, new practitioners, or anyone who wants a refresher on current medication safety strategies.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Define the various terminology used within medication safety
  2. Recognize a trigger that could enhance adverse drug event surveillance.
  3. Classify a medication error according to the National Coordinating Council for Medication Error Reporting and Prevention (NCCMERP) scale.
  4. Describe the medication use process
  5. List strategies to prevent medication errors
  6. Recognize the importance of reporting medication incidents
  7. Define a second victim and list ways that you can help support a second victim.
  8. Using the 'Just Culture Decision Support Tool', select the appropriate response depending on the employee's action.

Registration is free, but pre-registration is required.

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by Indiana University School of Medicine and Indianapolis Coalition for Patient Safety. Indiana University School of Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
Nurses
Indiana University School of Medicine designates this activity for a maximum of 3.00 ANCC contact hours. Nurses should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Pharmacists
