Overview
The 2024 AGAR Conference, presented by IU Addiction Psychiatry and Overdose Lifeline, is a multidisciplinary professional educational conference for physicians, nurses, therapists, scientists, trainees and policymakers.
Addiction death by overdose and many other fatal pathways is  the leading cause of  premature death in the U.S.  Significant gaps exist in understanding the nature and suffering of this death toll  for patients and families among treatment professionals. This conference will explore clinical-scientific knowledge addressing these 3  themes:

1) Addiction is a brain disease of motivation and attachment;
 2) Understanding and treating patients suffering with the  special grief of losing loved ones to addiction;
 3) Understanding and driving addiction and mental illness recovery as a form of Grief Processing

Audience participation is expected and the proceedings will be filmed to create an educational documentary. Lunch will be provided.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Faculty and audience participants will better understand the neuroscientific and clinical aspects of addiction as a disease of motivation and attachment, and implement this knowledge into their research, training missions, and clinical practices.
  2. Faculty and audience participants will better understand the neuroscientific and clinical aspects of Grief and Loss due to addiction and related deaths, and incorporate this knowledge into their research, training missions, and clinical practices.
  3. Faculty and audience participants will better understand and incorporate the neuroscientific and clinical aspects of Attachment damage and repair in addiction recovery into their research, training missions, and clinical practices.
