Overview

The RESPECT Center Conference objective is to bring together clinicians and researchers interested in evidence-based palliative and end-of-life care to help enhance clinical practice and foster new partnerships for translational research.

March 1st will be the main conference for everyone who registers.

February 29th will be the pre-course "Mastering Tough Conversations", which will be begin at 8:00 am and end at 4:30 pm, for those who register for the pre-course option.

Mastering Tough Conversations Pre-course Description: The practice of Hospice and Palliative Care involves conversations with patients and families that are often high stakes and involve complex emotions. This interdisciplinary full-day pre-course, presented by IU Talk and powered by VitalTalk (VitalTalk.org), will be experiential, with each participant working in a small group to navigate challenging cases. The pre-course offers opportunities to practice frameworks for supporting patients who are receiving serious news and deliberating about goals of care, with the goal of nurturing healthier relationships with patients and families.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe best practices in palliative and hospice care for improving care of patients with serious illness
  2. Discuss strategies to improve advance care planning for patients will serious illness of all ages.
  3. Identify current challenges and opportunities in the field of palliative care.

Registration deadline is February 15.

Pre-Conference Workshop: $375
Please note that fees for the pre-conference workshop are in addition to the RESPECT day-long conference fees, only 18 seats available for the pre-conference workshop.

In support of improving patient care, Indiana University School of Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Indiana University School of Medicine designates this activity for a maximum of 12.75 ANCC contact hours. Nurses should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
