Overview

As we strive for excellence in education at IUSON, our accrediting organization, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education requires that all preceptors receive information and guidance for the preceptor role. IUSON has developed the "Graduate Preceptor Orientation Toolkit" in IU’s learning management system, Canvas. It is a valuable resource for you and includes information on the MSN courses, policies, preceptor and student responsibilities, clinical communication vignettes, and Medatrax instructions for verification of hours. You can earn two free continuing education (CE) hours for the completion of this brief, one-time orientation course. This information is readily available to you for future reference in Canvas after completion.

Launch Date: 1/3/2024

Expiration Date: 1/3/2027

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Reference IUSON policies and procedures regarding student clinical experiences.
  2. Summarize preceptor, student, and faculty roles and responsibilities.
  3. Identify strategies to strengthen student learning and engagement.
  4. Describe best practices for specific clinical experiences and interactions between preceptors and students in a variety of settings.
