Overview
This symposium will provide valuable information to healthcare providers who care for patients with obesity. Health professionals who will be interested in the content of this program are Primary Care Physicians, Specialty Care Physicians, Medical Weight Loss Physicians, Bariatric Surgeons. Pharmacists, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Clinical Psychologists, Registered Dietitians, Exercise Specialists, Physical Therapists, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Registered Nurses.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Recite the criteria, treatment options, and outcomes of weight loss services available to patients with obesity in the state of IN and central IN region. ents with
  2. Recognize effective ways to discuss with patients the impact of obesity on outcomes and need for its effective treatment.
  3. Identify mechanisms of obesity and the current state of obesity care in the state of IN and central IN
  4. Identify research and practice perspectives on obesity/related disease affecting adults/children in Indiana, the promoting factors, and existing/novel treatment strategies.
  5. Recite the incidence and variation of obesity and cancer in the state of IN and central IN region
  6. Recognize the relationship between obesity and cancer
  7. Identify mechanisms that link obesity with cancer and could represent targets for intervention
  8. Identify research and practice perspectives on obesity related diseases including cancer affecting adults and children in Indiana, promoting factors, and existing/novel treatment strategies.

Indiana University Health is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Maryland Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

Participants will earn up to 5.25 contact hours commensurate with participation and submission of the evaluation.

Nearly 100 million individuals are affected by obesity in the United States, and as we seek to provide solutions and treatment options to those affected by obesity, we invite you to partner with us as we present the IU Health, IU School of Medicine (IUSOM), and IU School of Public Health (IU SPH) Obesity Symposium.

The IU Health, IUSOM, and IU SPH Obesity Symposium will include content for weight loss programs, obesity researchers, and healthcare providers who aim to promote health and wellness in the state of Indiana and across our nation. In 2022, over 90 attendees participated in the hybrid event.

The 2023 IU Obesity Symposium will be held on Friday, May 19th at the Ritz Charles (12156 N. Meridian Street, Carmel, IN 46032) from 8:00 am until 3:00pm.

As a exhibitor, you will have the opportunity to connect with a group of attendees at the full day Symposium during breakfast, lunch, and other breaks throughout the day.

Please note that exhibitors will have easy drive-up and drop-off access to the building for table supplies. Additionally, all attendees and exhibitors will have access to free parking in the adjacent parking lot.

If your organization would like to exhibit at the Obesity Symposium, please request a Commercial Promotion Commitment  form  from Cathleen Carlos, Bariatric Surgery Program Coordinator,  Additionally, you will be asked to review the Commercial Exhibitor Agreement form.

Amenities Include:
a. Use of a single table/chair(s) in the exhibit space.
b. Exhibitor identification signage, such as a table top sign, table runner, or banner, provided by the exhibitor, is permitted on the table.
c. Permission for up to two representatives to exhibit the product/service.
d. A single set of program materials per Exhibitor (not per representative), if program materials have been created and distributed to attendees. However, in no event will IUSM CME provide a list of program attendees in program materials given to Exhibitors.
e. If you wish to attend presentations: remove your name tag before entering meeting space and refrain from wearing or taking items with company name/logo into meeting space. Also refrain from asking questions or leading the discussion in any ways.
f. IU School of Medicine prohibits exhibitors from providing gifts, regardless of market value. Please do not distribute any gift items with company or product names/logos. Product brochures allowed on exhibit tables.
g. Acknowledgment at the activity. Pursuant to ACCME SCS 6.4, such acknowledgement will not contain the logo of any individual Exhibitor.  Rather, the course director (or other CME representative) will acknowledge the exhibitors and the availability of the exhibit space generally for attendees who choose to visit it.
