Overview
This is an intensive 3-day, virtual, evidence-based training program. TTS Part 2 will cover pharmacotherapy; counseling skills; cognitive and behavioral strategies to assist tobacco users in quitting; and intake, assessment, and treatment planning.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Define characteristics and process of motivational interviewing
  2. Assess readiness to change
  3. Demonstrate the basic skills of motivational interviewing
  4. Describe how to negotiate an action plan
  5. Explore the integration of MI and CBT in an intensive treatment plan
  6. Recognize specific cognitive and behavioral strategies for the pre-cessation, cessation, and relapse prevention phases of treatment
  7. Review treatment considerations for priority populations.
  8. Describe various types of NRT and Non NRT medications available, how they work & general guidelines for use.
  9. Describe and apply evidence-based medicine principles to pharmacological treatment for nicotine dependence
  10. Explain the anticipated effects of the available pharmacologic treatment in select medical conditions
  11. List additional special concerns and issues that affect the choice of pharmacologic treatment
  12. Apply knowledge of the use of pharmacotherapy to hypothetical cases.
  13. Describe the key components of a comprehensive intake process including: demographics, tobacco use, quitting, and medical/psychiatric history, dependence, social, cultural, environmental factors
  14. Assess a tobacco user from a bio/psycho/social model
  15. Identify strengths and potential barriers to treatment
  16. Conduct interviews in a manner which advances stage of change and promotes self-efficacy
  17. Develop a tailored treatment plan based on the assessment

TTS Core Training Part 1 – This is an 8-10 hour online training that must be completed before attending the virtual 3-day Part 2 training. Part 1 covers the determinants of tobacco use disorder, including biological, psychological, and social aspects; physical and behavioral health impact of tobacco use; and best practices for systems to support treatment of tobacco use disorder. Your confirmation email contains information on how to access the online course.

TTS Core Training Part 2 - This is an intensive 3-day evidence-based training program which will be delivered virtually via Zoom. This part will cover pharmacotherapy; counseling skills; cognitive and behavioral strategies to assist tobacco users in quitting; and intake, assessment, and treatment planning.

UMass TTS Core Training Program is accredited by Council for Tobacco Treatment Training Programs (CTTTP). The program provides equal opportunity and access to all applicants regardless of age, race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, disability and veteran's status. 

Participant Requirements:
- Participants must be tobacco-free for 6 months prior to the training
- Have good/stable internet connection
- Must have Zoom application downloaded, not accessing through web browser
- Webcam or access to webcam through other mobile device/tablet
- Ability to speak/have audio over the computer or mobile device/tablet
- Must be present (no work or home responsibilities for the entire training course)

Cancellation Policy: 
Cancellations received 2 weeks prior to the training will receive a full refund, less a $100 processing fee. Cancellations received within 2 weeks of the training will not receive a refund. For questions about the program, or to make a substitution, contact [email protected].


Accreditation
In support of improving patient care, Indiana University School of Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Nurses
Indiana University School of Medicine designates this activity for a maximum of 18.25 ANCC contact hours. Nurses should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Pharmacists

Indiana University School of Medicine designates this activity for 18.25 ACPE contact hours. Pharmacists should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Credit will be provided to NABP CPE Monitor within 60 days after the activity completion.

Physicians

Indiana University School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 18.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Social Workers

Indiana University School of Medicine has been approved by the Indiana Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist and Mental Health Counselor Board to provide Category I Continuing Education program. This activity qualifies for 18.25Category I CEU as outlined by the Indiana Behavioral Health and Human Services Licensing Board.
