Overview
The Brown Center for Immunotherapy at Indiana University will host a CME virtual conference entitled Advances in Hematology and Oncology: Immunotherapy and Other Novel Approaches to Lymphoma. Antibodies, cell therapies and gene therapies have the potential to greatly improve the prognosis of patients with life-threatening illnesses. A challenge for interprofessional healthcare clinicians is keeping pace with the rapidly advancing technology and clinical applications. Patients also inquire about options based on reports in the press or on the internet. This CME course will increase participant’s understanding of the biology, expected outcomes, and potential adverse events associated with novel therapies. The goal of this program is to improve the knowledge base and applicable strategies of the team regarding technologic advances, ongoing clinical trials, and FDA approved therapies. The anticipated outcome is empowerment of participants to provide counseling and appropriate referrals.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe the general mechanism of action of these novel biologic agents after a review of immunotherapy, cell and gene therapy technology;
  2. Judge whether immunotherapy, cell and gene therapy is an appropriate option to discuss with lymphoma patients based on specific clinical scenarios; and
  3. Better council lymphoma patients who inquire about novel therapies based on explanation of the terminology and clinical applications.
