Overview
This symposium will provide valuable information to providers who care for patients with obesity. Health professionals who will be interested in the content of this program are Primary Care Physicians, Specialty Care Physicians, Medical Weight Loss Physicians, Bariatric Surgeons. Pharmacists, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Clinical Psychologists, Registered Dietitians, Exercise Specialists, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Registered Nurses.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to: 

  1. Recite the criteria, treatment options, and outcomes of weight loss services available to patients with obesity in the state of IN and central IN region;
  2. Recognize effective ways to discuss with patients the impact of obesity on outcomes and need for its effective treatment;
  3. Identify mechanisms of obesity and the current state of obesity care in the state of IN and central IN; and
  4. Identify factors that promote weight gain in Bariatric patients after surgery due to the effects of COVID-19 and lack of social support.

$25- Indiana University, IU Health, IU Health Physicians (IUHP) health professionals, and students $50- Non-IU affiliate health professionals

Accreditation
In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by Indiana University School of Medicine and IU Health Physicians. Indiana University School of Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Nurses
Indiana University School of Medicine designates this activity for a maximum of 4.00 ANCC contact hours. Nurses should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.


Pharmacists

Nearly 100 million individuals are affected by obesity in the United States. As we seek to provide solutions and treatment options to those affected by obesity, we invite you to partner with us as we present the IU Health and IU School of Medicine Obesity Symposium.

The IU Health Physicians and IU School of Medicine Obesity Symposium will include content for weight loss programs, obesity researchers, and healthcare providers who aim to promote health and wellness in the state of Indiana and across our nation. In 2019, over 90 attendees participated in the event.

The 2020 IU Health and IU School of Medicine Obesity Symposium will be held virtually via Zoom on Friday, October 30 from Noon - 4:30 pm..
