Overview
Informatics essentials program is a two-year curriculum based but not limited to Pathology Informatics Essentials for Residents guidelines as developed by APC (Association of Pathology Chairs), API (Association for Pathology Informatics) and CAP (College of American Pathologists). Attending this course provides understating of basic concept in informatics and it applications.

Objectives
At the end of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Utilize the correct terminology, be conversant in the fundamentals of informatics, define the types and roles of standards, recall the elements of system and data availability.
  2. Describe ISs and the role they play in efficient operations and health care delivery; define the key features of communication standards including images; recognize the advantages of standardized terminology for creating interchangeable data.
  3. Explain the role and responsibility of pathologists with regard to the selection, oversight, and use of informatics systems; recall what IS features will support and optimize their practice; identify opportunities to modify the LIS to improve operations; achieve compliance with existing and emerging regulations
  4. Share in the responsibility for information management; oversee the identification and resolution of problems related to IS; contribute to the analysis and interpretation of integrated pathology and enterprise data sets for improving care quality and increasing the efficiency of care delivery.
