A one day live lecture series provided by IU Health practitioners regarding Emergency Medicine.

Topics include: Substance Abuse, Diabetes, Cardiology, Child Abuse, Evidence Based Practice Updates, Migraines and Visual Diagnosis of Patients. 

Who should attend: Nurse Practitioners, Advanced Providers, Physicians, Students. 


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Design an evidence based approach to some common emergency medicine problems;
  2. Debate innovative articles in Emergency Medicine in an unbiased fashion;
  3. Infer assessment findings to formulate impression and implement treatment plan for patients with diabetic emergencies;
  4. Discuss pharmacological management of diabetic ketoacidosis in the Emergency Department;
  5. Report the relationship between cocaine effects and the cardiovascular system including hemodynamic alterations, coronary vasoconstriction, and direct myocardial and vascular toxicity;
  6. Recommend first line therapy to be used in emergency situations with cocaine induced chest pane.
  7. Increase awareness for the need to take steps to protect children from maltreatment and assist their families with treatment services;
  8. complete a physical exam on a child looking for signs of major and subtle signs of child maltreatment including, but not limited to: bruises, burns, lacerations, fractures and HEENT injuries;
  9. Implement a quick assessment of severity of a patient's condition in the Emergency Department and determining priority of care; and
  10. Collecting information on patient diagnosis and physical exam to make a detailed assessment in a timely fashion for emergency situations.
