Overview

The impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) on the developing nervous system has gained much attention of late, particularly related to adult health outcomes.  The underlying neural development related to ACEs will be explored, along with developmental models that support healing and maturation.  Such an approach both requires and benefits community, strengthening the likelihood of an interconnected, supportive environment for the future.

INsights & INnovations is a monthly webinar series designed for public health practitioners. Our current series is exploring ways we can address public health challenges through a health equity lens. Webinars are the last Friday of every month at 12:00 pm eastern time.

If you would like an accessible format of any the presentation slides, please email [email protected].

Visit IU Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health for a full list of activities.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Identify the risk factors for adverse childhood experiences (ACEs);
  2. Describe the basic underlying neurobiology of ACEs related to negative health outcomes; and
  3. Describe the protective factors of ACEs and the mechanisms of prevention and healing in this arena.
