Overview
This activity is designed to provide the directors of Qualified Medication Aide training programs with innovative ways to enhance their existing program to meet the needs of their students. Participants will be taught how to recognize the impacts on teaching/learning, such as the facility environment, diversity and cultural differences, and factors that influences learner motivation. Education about suggested teaching strategies and assessment techniques will be provided. Participants will be able to apply adult learning concepts to the way they teach their nurse aide course.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Develop, present, and evaluate a QMA education program using knowledge of the operational standards
  2. Apply adult learning principles
  3. Identify tools and techniques to be used to assess learning

$199- fee for those, who have registered to attend the October 3, 2024 CNA course OR have already completed the QMA course within the last year.

IMPORANT INFORMATION: 

The live program is being held on Zoom. Detailed Zoom access/login information and handouts for each workshop will be emailed to the email address used during registration during the week prior to the workshop.
The Adult learning concepts modules are being hosted on IU Canvas. See below for instructions related to the required online activities.

Canvas Guest Account Set Up: You will need an IU Guest Account to access the online course you are registered for. Please read the instructions carefully and complete all of the following steps as soon as possible.


1.Go to https://canvas.iu.edu

2.Click on "Create one now" under the "Need an IU Guest account?" question.


3.Please complete the necessary fields, using the same email you used to register as your username.

4.After submitting a password go to your email account. Look for an email from the Indiana University IT Department. A link to activate the account will be in this email. Click on the link (copy and paste if needed), you will redirected back to the IT accounts page. Follow the prompts to receive a message “Successful activation”. If you do NOT receive this email, contact IT Helpdesk at 317-274-4357.


5. IMPORTANT STEP PLEASE DO NOT SKIP THIS: Once you have successfully activated your IU Guest Account via the link in #4, you must go to https://canvas.iu.edu and log in. ***Note: You won't have any courses on your course list yet as we cannot add you to the course site until this step has been completed.


6. Last, send an email to Hilary Clements at [email protected] with the following information:
 Your name

IU Guest account user name

name of the course

Once we have this information, we will be able to add you to the Canvas course site on or just before the date of the in person workshop. You'll receive an email when you've been added to the course roster and can start working in the course.

In support of improving patient care, Indiana University School of Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Nurses

Indiana University School of Medicine designates this activity for a maximum of 2.50 ANCC contact hours. Nurses should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
