Overview

The University of Massachusetts Medical School’s Tobacco Treatment Specialist (TTS) Core Training program has been in existence since 1999. This training is designed for people who want to deliver moderate to intensive tobacco treatment services within a health care or community setting.  The curriculum addresses a set of core competencies for tobacco treatment specialists defined by the Association for the Treatment of Tobacco Use and Dependence (ATTUD).  Successful completion of this training qualifies as the training requirement to apply for the National Certificate in Tobacco Treatment Practice. 


Registration

Registration Fees:
General Participation Fee - $600 (includes Part 1 & Part 2)
*This virtual training capacity is limited to the first 24 registered participants.

TTS Core Training Part 1 – This is a 10 hour online training that must be completed before attending the virtual 3-day Part 2 training. Part 1 covers the determinants of tobacco use disorder, including biological, psychological, and social aspects; physical and behavioral health impact of tobacco use; and best practices for systems to support treatment of tobacco use disorder. You will be sent an email from training facilitators on how to access this online course.

TTS Core Training Part 2 - This is an intensive 3-day evidence-based training program which will be delivered virtually via Zoom. This part will cover pharmacotherapy; counseling skills; cognitive and behavioral strategies to assist tobacco users in quitting; and intake, assessment, and treatment planning

UMass TTS Core Training Program is accredited by Council for Tobacco Treatment Training Programs (CTTTP). The program provides equal opportunity and access to all applicants regardless of age, race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, disability and veteran's status. 

Participant Requirements:
- Participants must be tobacco-free for 6 months prior to the training
- Have good/stable internet connection
- Must have Zoom application downloaded, not accessing through web browser
- Webcam or access to webcam through other mobile device/tablet
- Ability to speak/have audio over the computer or mobile device/tablet
- Must be present (no work or home responsibilities for the entire training course)

Cancellation Policy: 
Cancellations received 2 weeks prior to the training will receive a full refund, less a $100 processing fee. Cancellations received within 2 weeks of the training will not receive a refund. For questions about the program, or to make a substitution, contact [email protected].


Accreditation
In support of improving patient care, Indiana University School of Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Nurses
Indiana University School of Medicine designates this activity for a maximum of 18.5 ANCC contact hours. Nurses should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Pharmacists

Indiana University School of Medicine designates this activity for (ACPE UAN JA4008178-0000-21-053-L04-P; JA4008178-0000-21-053-L04-T). Pharmacists should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Credit will be provided to NABP CPE Monitor within 60 days after the activity completion.

Physicians

Indiana University School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 18.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Social Workers
This activity qualifies for 18.5 Category I Continuing Education Units for Social Workers, Clinical Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, Marriage and Family Therapy Associates, Mental Health Counselors, Mental Health Counselor Associates, Addiction Counselors, and Clinical Addiction Counselors as outlined by the Indiana Behavioral Health and Human Services Licensing Board.

*ICAADA and MHANI recognize CEUs obtained from activities approved by the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency for CAPRC I & II Peer Recovery Coach and CRS/CHW credentials.
