Overview
A one-day conference with workshops and lectures along with an optional hands-on simulation. This conference will be held in Fairbanks Hall. The group will be split up into different rooms for different live activities. Target audience: Emergency Medicine providers from IU Health and around the state of Indiana.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe epidemiology and rising incidence of pediatric mass casualty and trauma.
  2. Prepare your ED for pediatric mass casualties.
  3. Discuss how to prepare your team for pediatric mass casualties.
  4. Identify new drug ingestions that may show up in your ED.
  5. Describe how to initially manage pediatric patients in whom you suspect overdose.
  6. Determine key indications for toxicology consultation.
  7. Review new publications impacting pediatric EM.
  8. Use new evidence to update your care of pediatric patients in the ED.
  9. Describe strategies for troubleshooting the unique physiologies associated with certain complex congenital heart lesions.
  10. Discuss common indications for midazolam in pediatric patients.
  11. Review pharmacology of midazolam dosing for anxiolysis in pediatric patients.
  12. Identify ways to overcome barriers to use in your ED.
  13. Review recent guideline changes in maintenance fluid therapy for children.
  14. Compare balanced fluids with normal saline in the resuscitation of pediatric patients.
  15. Select appropriate dextrose concentration and volume for pediatric patients.
  16. Review the newest recommendations antimicrobial use for common pediatric infections including: UTIs, Pneumonia, Otitis Media and Strep Pharyngitis.
  17. Review the current standards for diagnosis and treatment of bronchioltis.
  18. Describe current epidemiology of E. coli 0157:H7 and other shiga toxin producing serotypes of E. coli.
  19. Define diagnostic criteria for HUS.
