Overview
Current Updates in Infectious Disease Audience- Surgeons, Intensivists, Hospitalists, Pharmacists IU Health Suburban Region (North, Saxony, Tipton, West) Saturday - January 26 from 9 am - 1pm CME and CPE credit

Objectives
  1. Discuss methods used in developing antibiotic duration guidelines will allow attendees to better understand how duration of therapy is determined
  2. After review of pertinent literature participants will apply current concepts for choosing clinically appropriate antibiotic duration of treatment
  3. Evaluation of clinical cases will provide attendees with tools necessary to more precisely identify appropriate durations of thearpy for urinary tract infections, pneumonia, and cellulitis.
  4. Review local antibiotic resistance rates with attendees to give them the necessary knowledge to identify problematic resistant organisms in the community
  5. Identification of local antibioitc resistance patterns will give participants the ability to choose antibiotic regimens with a high likelihood of clinical success
  6. Identify current resistance patterns will allow attendees to better understand the rationale for hospital specific empiric antibioitic therapy recommendations
  7. Discuss antibiotic allergy reporting will demonstrate to attendees how patient reports of antibiotic allergies may negatively affect treatment outcomes
  8. After literature review, participants will better understand different types of antibiotic allergic reactions, the mechanisms of reactions, the significance of the severity of reactions, and how this knowledge will aid in choosing antibiotics in patients reporting antibiotic allergies.
  9. Discuss allergic reaction type and severity will allow attendees to more appropriately choose antibiotics.
  10. 0 recognize risk factors for C difficile infection and be able to categorize antimicrobial use that contributes to increased incidence
  11. 1Attendees will be taught the tools to use to effectively diagnose C difficile colitis
  12. 2Recognize and apply the medical and surgical treatment options and their effectiveness in treating C difficile infection
