Overview

Join us for a special Continuing Medical Education (CME) event commemorating the 50th Anniversary of our Emergency Medicine residency program. This milestone celebration will feature engaging presentations from alumni and faculty, highlighting the evolution of emergency care, innovations in clinical practice, and the enduring impact of residency training. Attendees will gain insights into the history and future of EM, while earning CME credit through interactive sessions focused on leadership, clinical excellence, and professional development.

Attendees must be registered in advance of the events. There will be no same day registration.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Review ED-relevant recent (last 12 months) scientific literature relating to the diagnosis and/or management of acute stroke.
  2. Rapidly recognize life-threatening electrolyte emergencies, initiate evidence-based stabilization strategies in the emergency department, and prioritize interventions that reduce immediate morbidity and mortality.
  3. Discuss the current literature in prehospital care.
  4. Recognize how they can leverage clinical expertise and systems thinking to influence health policy, navigate political environments, and advocate for reforms that improve public health and healthcare delivery.
  5. Identify basic techniques for ocular POCUS, including basic anatomy, imaging planes, and machine calibration.
  6. Differentiate between retinal detachment and vitreous detachment/hemorrhage.
  7. Differentiate between macula-on and macula-off retinal detachment.
  8. Review a wide range of pathology that can be diagnosed with ocular POCUS, including central retinal artery occlusion, papilledema, endophthalmitis, retrobulbar hemorrhage, and infiltrating masses.
  9. State the features of published, low-cost research that has changed how we think as practitioners of emergency care.
  10. Describe emerging trends in recreational drug use and identify clinically significant adulterants and contaminants relevant to emergency medicine.
