Overview
The Brown Center for Immunotherapy at Indiana University will host its inaugural annual CME conference entitled Advances in Hematology and Oncology. Immunologically based therapies have the potential to greatly improve the prognosis of patients with life-threatening illnesses. A challenge for clinicians is keeping pace with the rapidly advancing technology and clinical applications. Patients also inquire about options based on reports in the press or on the internet. This CME course will increase participant’s understanding of the biology, expected outcomes, and potential adverse events associated with novel therapies for myeloma. The goal of this program is to improve the knowledge base of clinicians and researcher regarding technologic advances, ongoing clinical trials, and FDA approved therapies. The anticipated outcome is empowerment of participants to provide counseling and appropriate referrals based on an improved understanding of current cell and gene therapy treatment options

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe our current understanding of the biology, genetics and treatment approach to multiple myeloma.
  2. Judge whether immune based therapies, including cell and gene therapies, are an appropriate option to discuss with patients based on information presented by course faculty.
  3. Better counsel myeloma patients who inquire about novel therapies based on explanation of the terminology and clinical applications.
