Overview
Designed for gastroenterologists, internists, primary care providers, family practice physicians, and nurses, this course will examine new developments in gastroenterology and hepatology, specifically "breakthrough" research that has clinical relevance for today's busy physicians and advanced providers

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Recognize what the adenoma detection rate is, and its relationship to the risk of post colonoscopy cancer.
  2. Identify methods of removing adenomas and serrated lesions, and methods that reduce risk of complications.
  3. Cite recommended surveillance intervals for various combinations of numbers of serrated lesions and adenomas, lesions sizes, and histologies.
  4. Describe the subtypes of microscopic colitis and risk factors for the disorders.
  5. Define treatment goals and effective therapies in microscopic colitis.
  6. Explain medications commonly used for constipation, and pros and cons of each, including cost and side effects.
  7. Recognize pharmacologic treatments for anal fissure and hemorrhoids.
  8. Evaluate and make recommendations for anal pruritis.
  9. Identify recommended surveillance intervals for Barrett’s esophagus.
  10. Initiate evaluation for fecal incontinence in adults.
  11. Recognize the roles of dilation, proton pump inhibitors, diet therapy, and steroids in eosinophilic esophagitis.
  12. Describe recent updates in diagnosis and treatment of liver disorders.
  13. Determine best practices in the treatment of acute and chronic pancreatitis.
  14. Recognize recommended surveillance methods and intervals for patients with pancreatic cysts.
  15. Identify best testing algorithms for acute upper and lower GI bleeding.
  16. Describe appropriate biologic therapies in patients with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
  17. Recall indications for multi-gene panel testing in patients with gastrointestinal cancers.
  18. Express indications for peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) and gastric peroral endoscopic myotomy G-POEM.

b. Exhibitor identification signage, such as a table top sign, table runner, or banner, provided by the exhibitor, is permitted during the Virtual Exhibit.

c. Permission for two representatives to exhibit the product/service. A third representative can be added for an additional fee in the amount of $500. For more than three representatives, additional exhibits should be purchased.

d. A single set of program materials per Exhibitor (not per representative), if program materials have been created and distributed to attendees. However, in no event will IUSM CME provide a list of program attendees in program materials given to Exhibitors.

e. Permission to attend the educational activity, subject to the conditions set forth below: 
Exhibitors must not have virtual backgrounds that include company logos, trademarks, slogans or promotional language.

  Exhibitors must not include company name, slogans or promotional language in their virtual meeting participant name.

f. Acknowledgment at the activity. Pursuant to ACCME SCS 6.4, such acknowledgement will not contain the logo of any individual Exhibitor. Rather, the course director (or other CME representative) will acknowledge the exhibitors and the availability of the exhibit space generally for attendees who choose to visit it.
