Overview

23rd Annual IU Gastroenterology/Update will be a virtual course. Those who have pre-registered will receive a pre-conference communication 3-7 days prior to the course which will include the Zoom link.  Please check back later for an updated agenda.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions this course was postponed from April 24, 2020.
All registrations for the April 24th date are transferred to the October date.

Designed for gastroenterologists, internists, family practice physicians, other primary care providers, and nurses, this course will examine new developments in gastroenterology and hepatology, specifically “breakthrough” research that has clinical relevance for today’s busy physicians and advanced providers.

Location and Parking
The symposium will be held at the Indiana History Center located at 450 West Ohio Street, Indianapolis, Indiana. Limited free parking is available in the Center's parking lot; please enter from New York Street. Metered parking and other parking facilities are available through out the downtown area.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Recall the data supporting beginning colon cancer screening at age 45, and how best to choose among screening options (colonoscopy, FIT, and FIT-fecal DNA)
  2. Recognize indications for genetic testing in inherited GI cancer syndromes, and be able to interpret information from multigene panel testing.
  3. Identify and apply management strategies for colonic and extra-colonic cancers in polyposis syndromes and Lynch syndrome.
  4. Define new post polypectomy surveillance recommendations.
  5. Recall how to evaluate and monitor pancreatic cysts for development of pancreatic cancer.
  6. Recognize how to interpret biopsies demonstrating gastric intestinal metaplasia, and how such patients should be followed.
  7. Discuss the efficacy of various regiments for H. pylori infection, and how to follow up treated patients.
  8. Describe newer testing strategies for esophageal motility disorders, including the use of advanced imaging systems and minimally invasive diagnostics medical devices, high resolution manometry, and pH and impedance monitoring.
  9. Describe data that supports actual proven complications from chronic PPI therapy.
  10. Explain recent recommendations for Barrett’s surveillance, including use of diagnostic platforms.
  11. Identify new approaches to treatment of GERD, including endoscopic antireflux procedures and new surgical procedures.
  12. Recall proper use and interpretation of gastric function testing in patients with suspected or known gastroparesis, and best treatments for the disorder.
  13. List new treatments and management paradigms in liver disease.
  14. Recognize best diagnostic evaluations in chronic diarrhea that should be completed before colonoscopy.
  15. Discuss common mistakes and tips for better management in irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease.

Cancellation Policy:
A full refund will be given if the cancellation is made at least one month in advance and follows our internal review and approval process. A partial refund of 50% would be allowable if cancellation is made at least two weeks in advance. No refund would be available for cancellations made after that point unless cause of cancellation is due to unforeseen extenuating circumstances such as serious illness, hospitalization, death of a close relative, etc. for which documentation may be requested.

Refunds will be issued based on the method in which the payment had been made. It is the departments intent to process refunds within five (5) days of approving the customers request for such refund.
