Overview

Join us for a day-long statewide conference designed to bring together healthcare clinicians and researchers to discuss best practices in palliative and end-of-life care.

The conference will offer:

·         Opening plenary session by national experts presenting evidence based best practices in palliative and end-of-life care

·         Local and regional networking opportunities

·         Sessions focused on pediatric, oncology and geriatric palliative and end-of-life care issues

·         Optional “Mastering Tough Conversations” pre-conference workshop on March 2, 2023

Mastering Tough Conversations : Even for the skilled communicator, the tasks of sharing news about a serious illness or discussing treatments that patients may be hesitant to undertake present challenges for providers. These difficult conversations span from the everyday conversation to end-of-life discussions. Improving these interactions has the benefit of improving patient-provider trust and collaboration. "Mastering Tough Conversations" is an interactive, immersive communication skills course that focuses on difficult discussions with patients and their families. While recognizing that there is no foolproof recipe for how to traverse these conversations, clinicians need to have a toolbox of skills to be able to have difficult conversations well.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe best practices in palliative and hospice care for improving care of patients with serious illness
  2. Discuss strategies to improve advance care planning for patients with serious illness of all ages
  3. Identify current challenges and opportunities in the field of Palliative Care
