Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe optimal non-pharmacologic treatment of SVT;
  2. Discuss the therapeutic approach to vomiting in diabetic gastroparesis;
  3. Recall an evidence-based approach to some common emergency medicine problems;
  4. Present cutting edge articles in Emergency Medicine in an unbiased fashion;
  5. Outline common biases in current medical literature;
  6. Discuss current medication treatments including the latest research on antibiotics;
  7. Develop triage plan for symptoms associated with acute pancreatitis in the emergency room;
  8. Evaluate and discuss two symptoms associated with acute on chronic pain as it relates to chronic pancreatitis;
  9. Use assessment findings to formulate field impression and implement treatment plan for patients with diabetic emergencies;
  10. Discuss pharmacological management of diabetic ketoacidosis in the emergency department;
  11. Recognize the differential diagnosis of the fussy infant;
  12. Describe the laboratory and radiographic studies that are part of the work up of the fussy infant;
  13. Describe reporting requirements for inflicted trauma;
  14. Assess risk factors with a patient with cardiac sounding chest pain in the Emergency Department;
  15. Identify the importance of adequate analgesia and Aspirin with patient who enter the emergency room with chest pain;
  16. Describe the management of a Patient with ST elevation on ECG and appropriate therapy;
  17. Explain how to order laboratory and ancillary test in order to more fully evaluate patients with cardiac sounding chest pain in the Emergency Department;
  18. Explain the dosing considerations and methods of administration, safe use, contraindications and precautions of drugs used in the emergency room;
  19. Outline comprehensive patient management plans for the special patient population admitted to the emergency room;
  20. Discuss the process to ensure to ensure patient safety when prescribing medications at high-risk for adverse outcomes;
  21. Determine if an older patient presenting to the ED with altered mental status is critically ill or not;
  22. Recall steps to evaluate and manage older patients with altered mental status including laboratory tests; and
  23. Explain medications to avoid which may make older patients with altered mental status to precipitate or worsen delirium.
  24. Identify three causes of acute abdominal pain and non-pharmacological and pharmacological treatment plans;
